Promotion is an important aspect of career development and employee retention. It boosts an employee’s commitment in achieving their personal goals and the organization’s objectives.
Selection process
Selecting the staff who will be promoted may be based on the following:
- Internal Job Posting (“IJP”) – this is opening the position for internal applications. In some cases, the IJP is done simultaneously with external job posting. Criteria for candidates need to be discussed with the clients since non-acceptance of internal candidates may result to them being demoralized
- Performance based – selection based on the staff who received the highest score or has consistently been exhibiting exemplary performance
Before promoting a staff, the staff needs to undergo a 90-day internship program where:
- The staff takes the MicroSourcing leadership training programs
- The client assigns a mentor to guide the staff on the new role
- The client assesses if the staff is fit for the role
- The staff assesses if the role is something that he would really want to do for the long term
The Account Manager needs to ensure that the following are in place before having someone on the internship program:
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)/scorecard during the internship program
- Frequency of evaluation – this is normally done monthly, with regular in-between coaching sessions
- Temporary job assignment (“TJA”) agreement
- Amount of the TJA allowance, if applicable
The POC needs to make sure that timely feedback is provided to the employee to make sure that he/she becomes successful in the new role
